The ilekes or
necklaces is one of the first ceremonies that a follower should receive.
This ceremony, along with the idde and ileke of Orunla, constitute the
first step in the religion. The ceremony is one of the simplest and
shortest since it only takes one hour. The only thing necessary is a
change of clothes, one set that is worn before the ceremony and another
change of clothes, all white, that is worn during and after the ceremony.
The ceremony is done in a room and never implicates nudity since the
change of clothes is done after a bath that is taken before actually
doing the ceremony. The necklaces received in this ceremony are: Eleggua
(red and black), Obatala (white), Ochum (yellow and honey), Yemaya (blue
and transparent), and Chango (red and white).
